All Regions
Many of the UK's biggest contractors are based in London or just outside it in Essex and Hertfordshire. The largest we list here, by turnover in their latest accounts, are fit-out contractor Overbury, Hill Partnerships, Colas Rail, Clancy Docwra, Midgard, Keltbray and housebuilder London Square. UK-wide contractors such as Morgan Sindall, Kier and Mace also have big London businesses.
How they pay
Of the London companies we list that file government payment reports, average payment times run from 5 to 57 days, with a middle figure of about 29 days. Averages hide a lot, so check each company's page for the share of invoices paid within 30 days and the share paid late, or compare them on the payment league table.
Frameworks
The London Construction Programme, procured by Haringey Council for public bodies across London and the Home Counties, runs the capital's biggest building frameworks. In March 2026 it appointed 44 firms to a £3bn general works framework, including Galliford Try, McLaren, Graham and Neilcott Construction. It also runs a £3bn education framework with 39 contractors, appointed in 2025, and a housing major works framework with 48, appointed in 2024.
